Fitness Yoda

Do as I say, not as I do.

Need I say more?

My family and I are starting a 10 pound challenge Monday morning. When I got to thinking about it, I think I've started a diet every Monday for the past ten years. Of course I worked out all week and struggled with my food choices. What's a girl to do when a whole sleeve of Thin Mints seems like a small snack? I just can't help myself sometimes... I LOVE food.

Justin just went over some nutrition guidelines with me. If you are around me this week, Aunt Flo is not visiting. I'm just having to learn some new habits. I need that moment where eating healthy becomes a lifestyle and not a diet. Lately, it just seems like I've been a little stressed. Some people forget to eat... but I eat double time. I firmly believe that a bag of Sun Chips downed in conjunction with a Diet Coke can calm the nerves. But I also firmly believe that people that do this won't be sportin' a swimsuit without a baggy cover-up at the pool this summer.

Did I just say swimsuit? Anyone else wanna join in on the 10 pound challenge?

  1. I hate to correct you (and I know someone in your house is a big Star Wars fan, so I want to keep you out of trouble!) but what Yoda says is "Do, or do not, there is no try." But I think that Yoda;s advise still applies to you. I keep telling you "You can DO this" never once have I said " You can TRY this" I have faith in you Shelley, and I know that you can DO this!

  2. I love reading your blog! I can sooo totally relate. (Its a little scary, sometimes I think I'm reading about myself- I just retired my Motherhood velour sweatsuit after last winter;) Maybe one of these days I'll get a chance to meet you at the gym. I absolutely LOVE LA Boxing! I joined LA Boxing at the beginning of October- my oldest child had just turned 9, my youngest is 2, and we're done having babies and I had some things going on where I felt I NEEDED to get this weight that I've struggled with for the last 10 years off once and for all- I lost 40 lbs in 4 months, I made it to my goal weight and am now working on another 5-10lbs. I'm in the best shape I've been in in at least 15 years, since college, and I feel GREAT.
Justin wanted me to give you a few of my tips! (He's great isn't he?)

First off, as far as diet goes I swear by Jorge Cruise's "3-hr Diet"- (not sure if Justin would endorse this:) but it works!) Of course, I modify it to fit my schedule, but I use the basic principles- once you start doing it, it does not feel like a diet, I do not feel deprived or starving all the time- it just becomes a way of life! Its really just healthy eating- I don't think I'll ever stop eating this way.

Secondly, there are 2 thoughts that I always have in my head when making food choices:
    1. What do I want more?
Do I want that cookie/ice cream/soda, etc. or do I want to lose this weight? Which do I want more? (and sometimes the junk food still wins:) but, most of the time, I realize I don't NEED the junkfood.
    2. Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels- soooo so true.

Oh, and a another tip, allow yourself to cheat- I've come to realize that if I eat 1 cookie, or drink 1 soda, have some ice cream, etc., here or there over the course of a WEEK those extra calories are not going to blow all my weightloss efforts- I just cannot eat that junk all day every day:) and I may need to do a little extra on my elliptical to make up for it.

Oh, and I just thought of another tip- High Protein breakfast! (I try to do a minimum of 15g) I've found that if I don't eat a high protein breakfast, and eat too many carbs first thing instead, I crave carbs all day long, and it becomes a very bad eating day.

Anyway, just a few tips for you:) Good Luck in your continuing weightloss efforts! You CAN do it!

    Best Wishes,
    Cindy
